11Th Dr Wang Kai Yuen Golf Tournament 2008

I was invited for 11Th Dr Wang Kai Yuen Golf Tournament 2008 last week, 7 days, 6 nights. It was indeed an eye opening and fulfilling invitation in all aspects.

Saturday, 25 October 2008 - Day One

We assembled at Changi Airport, terminal 1, 1:30pm together with 100 golfers. Turned the whole assembly area into a new market place - Fighting for a place in the quene for check-in. =) Immersing myself into their excitement, I enjoyed the moments of anxiousness and enthusiasm. We are setting off for GOLF!!!

Boarding time was at 3:40pm. After all the rowdy check-in, we were only left with 20 minutes for small snacks before it was time for us to board.

For us to get there, we need to take an international flight to Fu Zhou (approximately 6 hours) then transit to a domestic flight over to Hang Zhou (approximately 1 hour), after which take a coach transfer (approximately 2.5 hours). Thus the distance is quite far and by the time we reached Huang Shan Pine Golf Resort Hotel, Tunxi, it was already 2am. End of day one.

Sunday, 26 October 2008 - Day Two

No rush, no morning call. This is what I termed as relax, golf and vacation. Dread those days whereby you pay for vacation and the morning call starts at 6am or even earlier. Day 2 starts with breakfast from 6:30am till 9:30am. Many golfers came down with a satisfactory great night rest at 8am or later. Went back to their rooms, changed into golfing attire and came down for lunch within 10:30am till 11:00am. At 10:30am, all golf bags were tagged and arranged by the travel staffs and caddies. All beautifully done and I am impressed - 100 golf bags. Slight drizzling, but golfers are not afraid of rain. Temperature ranging around 19-24 degree celsius, just exactly the right temperature to tee off. NO SWEAT! =D

One round of 18-holes game on the old course, the course that we will be vying on the tournament day. Thus today is a trial run. LOL

And someone scored a HOLE-IN-ONE!!! A pity it wasn't on the tournament day, if not he would have had gotten a 24" LCD TV! Aww...

After golf, we went out for dinner at 6:30pm.

Dinner dishes were not exactly fantastic, but we got to taste all the local dishes. And the way they served the dishes were so fast. We had like a 15 course meal within half an hour. Totally madness! Service standard was really poor, food was oily and salty. I had Nong Sin cup noodle at 12am that night - Heavenly. Conclusion for dinner was that that was the best we could get, just that they don't suit our taste buds.

Monday, 27 October 2008 - Day Three

The usual relax timing. But the lazy me only got ready at 9:30am and I missed breakfast. Due to the cold weather, my tummy was protesting at 10am. I rushed for lunch at 10:30am and prepared for the tee off at 11:30am. Today's weather was the best. No rain, cool breeze and sunny day. A little tan will be nice. =)

Today tee off at the newly built 18-holes course.

Dinner was once again at 6:30pm and once again hastily served. LOL This time round we had some China style singers roaring off the stage and we almost had indigestion. Wahaha.

After dinner, took a walk down Lao Jie which is the famous street in Huang Shan selling all the local food and arts. S and G were really sweet, bought all the famous food products for me and I didn't have the chance to use any of my RMB.

Tuesday, 28 October 2008 - Day Four

Tournament day!!!

Most of the golfers booked their own caddies and were excitedly on the buggies by 11:30am. One thing I forgot to mention, majority of the caddies were cute and young China girls. Their age ranging from 15-19 years old. The environment is such that at young age, they have to work to support the family. Sad, but guess they do enjoy it and some of them are really experts in reading the lines! No wonder the golfers dote on them and fat tips were given. =P

Three nights of training and we are now used to the hasty pace of servicing during dinner. Programmes rolled off on stage with Facing Changing, Opera Singing, Magic Show and Local Dance items. Followed by prizes presentation during dinner and we all had fun.

After dinner, we went off to Feng Huang KTV. Hahaha. I did had fun singing, they have someone to specially serve you your songs and made all dedications for you. Service was great for the first time. And we had never ending rounds of red wine, emptying our glasses each time we said "CHEERS!". Hahaha.

Got back to hotel, I went off to my room to refresh myself before another 3 hours of Poker in G's room with the rest. With my naked face, I went over to G's room. I don't play Poker, so all I did was distribute cards, make tea and serve tea. Enjoying the laughing, the company of the gang. And I got myself a $100RMB tips! Wahahaha.

Wednesday, 29 October 2008 - Day Five

Was up earliest today, had breakfast at 7am. I will be sending G and gang off, feeling a little upset as I will be alone facing all strangers after they boarded the coach home.

Whereas for me, I will be embarking on the trip for a one night stay at Huang Shan, Bei Hai Hotel. We took a cable car from the bottom to the part of the mountain that we will be staying. And after we alight from the cable car station, it is another walk for 1 hour. We chose to hand over our hand carry to the hotel luggage caddies there to bring it over to the hotel first. While some decided to take the Jiao Zi ride instead of walking. Those on their feet, with the cold breeze rushing through us, there were no complains. The steps built for the walk are relatively comfortable to aid the walk. And the scenaries are awesome!

Expectation of the hotel room can't be compared to the hotel at the golf course. Due to the mountain living conditions, the rooms are kind of run down.

Thursday, 30 October 2008 - Day Six

I decided to head back to the golf hotel first with a group of golfers who wish to play another round of golf.

When we reached the hotel, I took off to another journey once again to Lao Jie. This time round, it wasn't that crowded as the first time that I came in the evening. Under the shady sun rays, I managed to browse through each stall carefully. I began to understand that it is an historical street, built to contain the history, not tourism. It is beautiful.

That night, we had our last dinner. Head back to hotel for a short meeting with PS with regards to the returning journey.

Friday, 31 October 2008 - Day Seven

Had breakfast at 6:30am. Made sure all bags were tagged and all golf bags were identified. We took a 3 hours journey to Hang Zhou airport for our 1 hour domestic flight to Xia Men. For the first time in my life, I smiled at the sign of KFC - So homely. I had a zinger meal, add on pop-corn chicken which barely cost me $4SGD.

From Xia Men, we had to check out all our baggage from the domestic arrival hall to the international departure hall. We took off at 5:30pm and arrived Singapore at 10pm.

Home sweet home!

Overall, the golfing experience and night entertainment was great. Food and sightseeing were not that fantastic. Dishes there are too oily, salty and served hastily. Sightseeing should be done at better parts of the year like Spring period as there won't be too much mist or rain.
